Moderation combines AutoMod (automatic filters for invites, links, spam, banned words and mass mentions) with manual tools for your staff (/warn, /kick, /ban, /mute, /timeout) and a numbered case log of everything that happened.

How it works#

  • Every action — automatic or manual — becomes a numbered case that you can look up with /case.
  • Warnings add up per member. After the threshold, the bot takes the action you chose (warn, mute, kick or ban).
  • The member gets a DM explaining what happened and why, and the action is logged in your mod-log channel.
  • @everyone protection removes unauthorised mass pings and can punish the sender; staff can be exempted.

Before you start#

The bot's role must be above the members it moderates.
A private #mod-log channel that only staff can see.
For Mute: a Muted role (or use /timeout, Discord's built-in mute).

Set it up#

Part 1AutoMod4 steps

Every setting explained#

Automod

Automatic filtering of messages.

Automod enabledMaster switch. When off, this does nothing on your server; your settings are kept.
Filter Discord invitesRemoves discord.gg links to other servers.
Filter linksRemoves every link (except whitelisted ones where available).
Detect spamCatches message floods and repeated messages.
@everyone & @here

Remove messages that try to ping the whole server

Delete @everyone / @here messagesEvery message containing them is removed straight away, even when automod is off
Staff may use themMembers with Manage Messages are left alone
Also give a sanctionUses the automod action (e.g. a warning); off = only delete with a short notice
Rules & action

What automod reacts to and what it does

Banned wordsComma-separated. Matching is case-insensitive.
Max. mentions per messageMore mentions than this counts as a violation.
Action on violationWarn, Mute, Kick or Ban.
WarnMuteKickBan
Mute roleUsed by Mute; it should deny Send Messages everywhere.
Mod-log channelEvery case is logged here.
/clear permissions

Choose which roles may use /clear and how many messages each one may delete at once — including messages older than 14 days, which the bot removes one by one. A member with multiple roles gets the highest max among them. Leave this list empty to fall back to Discord's own "Manage Messages" permission with no extra cap.

RoleMembers with this role are not filtered.
Max messagesHow many messages in a short window count as spam.
Expiry

Old warnings don't count forever

Warnings expire afterOld warnings stop counting toward the threshold.

Examples#

What a member receives

When AutoMod removes a message, the member gets a DM like this:

D
DAB BotAPP
⚠️ You received a warning in DAB Community
Reason: Posting invite links
Case: #128 · warnings: 2/3

Good to know#

Members with Manage Messages are never filtered by AutoMod, so test with a normal account.
Use /timeout for short cool-downs: it uses Discord's own timeout and needs no mute role.

Troubleshooting#

The bot can't ban or kick someone
That member's highest role is above (or equal to) the bot's role. Drag the bot's role higher in Server Settings → Roles.
Banned words aren't removed
Check that AutoMod is on, the word is spelled exactly, and the sender isn't staff.

FAQ#

Can I see a member's history?
Yes — the Moderation page shows every case per member, and staff can use /case view.
