Automations

PremiumStudio → Overlays → Automations11 settings4 min read

Automations turn your overlay into something that reacts on its own: if a raid of 20+ comes in, show the raid banner for 10 seconds, or if a mod types !brb, switch OBS to the BRB scene. Rules run inside the OBS browser source itself, so they work as long as the overlay is open in OBS. Open them with Automate in the top bar.

How it works#

  • A rule has a trigger (an event comes in with an optional minimum, or a chat command) and up to 8 actions.
  • Actions: Show layer, Hide layer (both optionally for N seconds, 0 = stays), Toggle layer on/off, Switch OBS scene.
  • Rules belong to one overlay. Their layers can be any layer or group of that overlay.
  • Every rule also becomes a button you can put on your OBS Control panel — see OBS panels.

Before you start#

An overlay with the layers you want to show or hide (tip: hide them with the eye icon first).
For scene switching: on the OBS browser source, Page permissions = Advanced access to OBS.

Set it up#

Rule list
SummaryEach rule shows its trigger → actions, e.g. Raid ≥ 20 → show Raid banner · 10 s.
Edit / DeleteChange or remove a rule. A deleted layer shows as (layer deleted) — pick a new one.

Examples#

Rule ideas

Big tip spotlight — Donation ≥ 10 → show Confetti for 6 s. Hydrate — Channel points → show Water break for 30 s. Clean screen — !clean (mods only) → toggle Chatbox, toggle Event list. Raid welcome — Raid ≥ 1 → switch OBS scene to Raid welcome.

Good to know#

Layers that only need to appear on an event without extra logic can also use Design & animation → Visibility → Only on an event.
Give the layers you automate clear names — the action menu lists them by name.

Troubleshooting#

Check the rule: pick a layer or scene for every action
Every action needs a layer (or a scene name) before you can save.
The scene doesn't switch
Set the OBS browser source's Page permissions to Advanced access to OBS, and check the scene name matches exactly (case matters).
A rule does nothing
Rules run in OBS: the overlay must be published and open in an OBS browser source. Also check the rule is Active.
